I don't think one's ever going to get a particularly large amount of good shots when alcohol's involved - my entire second roll from the karaoke had only that one above in focus - and that's a fluke - all the rest look like my scattered memory of the evening... I too took a rather staggering number of photos only to come out with a handful of decent ones. The "pic of you taking a pic of me taking a pic of you" was particularly average.
