New HDR Technique

Trying out a new HDR (from single RAW), technique. Quite liking the results, they seem to be better when the subject has some kind of stone or rock in it. Not sure about the one of the little boy – not particularly keen on the HDR effect on people. In fact, I’m not sure how much I like this really strong HDR effect at all, but it is pretty interesting…

    Yo!

    Good to see another post.

Liking the photos. HDRs in general look kind of weird on people; kinda makes them look doll-like or something. Overall, I do like the photo of the boy- the compositon and depth of field works well.

Say, how does one do this with only one raw file? Care to share the knowledge?

It’s from one RAW image…I think you have a camera that can do that right? Then you make three bracketed exposures at +3, 0, -3 in Photoshop and then do it as normal in Photomatix…here’s the full tutorial:

    Good work.

I have to say, the little boy looks a bit like he is made of stone

Yeah, I agree – generally HDR looks a little lame with portraits – had a big clear out of my RAWs a little while ago to save space on my hard disk and so didn’t have many options to try it with…but yeah, in future, not going to do it much with people pics
