This is a new mix I made for February. Well, not especially for February, but I finished it this week, so it may as well be a “February” mix. It’s the first time I’ve tried a mix of any genre of dance music other than D&B. Recently I’ve been trying to listen to some other styles, partly due to the fact that genres are refreshingly crossing over more and more. I haven’t heard a lot of stuff that I like within this style, lots of stuff that sounds like squelchy D&B from a few years back, although there are a few artists who seem to be consistently making tracks that I really like, and whose tracks are on this mix. This is also probably the reason why there isn’t the variation of artists that I would usually have in a mix. I don’t really know what genre this would be called? Dubstep? Bass? Minimal Techno? And I haven’t heard that many mixes either, so I may have made lots of unforgivable faux pas’ in the eyes of those that have, but I like the way the tunes go together, and that’s pretty much all I care about anyway. Hopefully someone else might enjoy it too. If you do, leave a comment…in fact, if you don’t, leave a comment anyway! Here’s the tracklist:

Oooh, I was just listening to your last mix the other day.
I hope you like this one, it’s a little different from the previous ones!
I really like this stuff. I’m going to have to come back round to your site more often. In Japan, I feel like I missed the last decade of dance-electronic music – all the dubstep, etc. I heard it, sure, and it elicited lots of “neato” from my reptile brain, but it never really sunk in. Back in America, now I’ve discovered why: I was completely nixing the bass in my little Japanese apartments to avoid harassing neighbors.
After about ten years, finally cranking it back up – it’s like I’ve missed the whole point. I even think the bass receptors in my brain probably deteriorated, going all phantom-limb and letting thigh-motor nerves move in to the empty neural cobweb that was previously used to process bass frequencies.
I picked up a car with some pretty banging low-range. Driving around the first time was like suddenly seeing a new color, or one that I barely remember in some mythical childhood. It was shit-the-bed.
Jacob! Good to hear from you man! Yeah, the difference having the bass makes is extraordinary hey! Getting home to my decent speakers has make a massive difference here too. So much deeper, warmer and wetter, like immersing oneself in a bassey molasses. There’s some sick stuff happening at the moment in the dubstep/bass/techno scene, and indeed in the more minimal D&B scene. You should check out an album called Triangulation by Scuba, and the Autonomic Fabric Live CD. Some amazingly good music – but stuff that you may want to play in your motor!
How’s tricks in the US&A? All good I hope – any plan for you and Seri to be together (geographicall)? Hope so!
