What with my manic attempts to move out of my flat by tomorrow, I haven't had time to post much recently, so here are some of the Contax shots I've had developed recently. I like these shots. I think of any film I've taken with the T2, this film probably had the highest proportion of decent pictures. Not that that was to do with anything more than luck, but still, nice to get.

Yesterday, for the first (and probably last time), I went out for a cruise in Tokyo Bay. It's a big piss-up on a boat, 2 hours at 2500円 (about £12) for all-you-can-drink beer and wine. Good fun, and lots of young, drunken Japanese people to chat with, which is always a laugh. Also lots of chances to fail to take good photos. These are again probably the better ones of the night. For Christmas, Eri got me this Contax T2. It's basically a point-and-shoot camera, but with an excellent Carl Zeiss Sonnar F2.8 lens which means it can take quite nice pictures. I still haven't quite worked out how to use it properly - the display through the viewfinder still confuses me a little, as does the exposure compensation, but on the whole, I was pretty happy with the few roll I got back. These are not cross-processed either, or touched in Photoshop. Pretty interesting colours and definition. I'm looking forward to shooting more with it, especially if not cross-processing means that the films can be developed in 30 minutes. I forgot how nice it is to be able to do that! As usual, click to see the other photos.
Magnum photos have an exhibition on their website at the moment, with one documentary photo per year from the last 60 years, to celebrate their 60th anniversary. I especially like this shot, of Russian villagers collecting scrap metal from space junk. Crazy.
A few weeks back, Eri bought herself a Diana. We went out one day in December in Roppongi and Shinjuku and got these shots. Like most toy cameras I've used, the instructions for the Diana really stress the possibility of light leaks and other wierdness, but this is the first time I have really seem them as noticeably. I quite like them. I'm not sure what happened to the one of my face all chopped up. Maybe the camera couldn't handle it or something and just gave up. Click to see them all.
In a change to getting shitfaced, pouring beer over myself and others and then falling asleep on the train home and missing my stop, me and the missus went west, to the edge of Tokyo and climbed Mt.Takao to see the first sunrise of the year. Unfortunately, it seemed that everyone else in Western Tokyo had had the same idea as the number of drunk idiots and girls in dangerously deficient levels of clothing for the freezing weather, threatened to totally ruin the whole experience. Luckily the beautiful sunrise and the ski lift down the mountain helped to make it pretty much worthwhile. Click the picture to see the sunrise. Happy New Year!
